Srinagar: Police have arrested seven drug peddlers in Srinagar, Budgam and Shopian and recovered contraband and psychotropic substances from their possession, an official handout informed Saturday.
It said in Bishambarnagar area of Srinagar, “substantial quantity of contraband substance” was recovered from the possession of Imran Ahmad Ganie, son of Ghulam Mohammed Ganie of Naibasti Anantnag, and Abid Hamid Nanda, son of Abdul Hamid Nanda of Dagpora Khanabal, Anantnag. Both persons were arrested, police said.
During checking at Sheikh Mohalla Brein (Nishat) one Umar Farooq Shiekh, son of Farooq Ahmad Shiekh of the same locality was arrested and 50 grams of contraband cannabis-like substance was recovered from his possession.
In Budgam, at village Lolipora, three persons — Bilal Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Hassan Bhat; Rouf Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Sultan Bhat, both residents of Utligam Beerwah; and Mukhtar Ahmad Najar, son of Abdul Rashid Najar of Chewdara – were arrested after five sticks of cannabis-like substance wrapped in corn husk weighing 49 grams, and another 368 grams of cannabis-like substance besides 14 strips of banned drug (112 tablets), ₹2520 in cash and two mobile phones were recovered from their possession.
In Shopian, at village Daramdoora Keegam, 16.700 kgs of cannabis was recovered from a residential house of Imtiyaz Ahmad Hurra, son of Bashir Ahmad Hurra of Daramdoora Keegam. Hurra has been arrested.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for investigations, police said.
