Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers in Kupwara, Baramulla, Srinagar & Budgam and recovered contraband substances and cash from their possession, an official handout informed Thursday.
It said one Ishfaq Ahmad Parry, son of Ghulam Hassan Parry of Doniwari Lolab, was arrested at Geerhatchi, Kupwara after 11 grams of heroin-like substance and ₹5,170 was recovered from his possession.
At Gingal Uri, one Saleem Khan, son of Akhter Khan of Dawaran Uri, was arrested after 1.208 kgs of cannabis powder-like substance was recovered from his possession.
In Dalgate Srinagar, two drug peddlers — Aquib Ahmad Sofi, son of Late Ghulam Mohiuddin Sofi of Buchwara Dalgate, and Ashiq Hussain Dar alias Ashiq Kala, son of Mohammad Yousuf Dar of Dubji Bund Maisuma, were arrested and a “substantial quantity” of narcotic substance and cash of ₹5,000 was recovered from their possession.
At Madbal Chadoora, police intercepted a vehicle (JK01K-3500) driven by Sajad Ahmad Wani, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Wani resident of Nowhar Chadoora, was recovered 1.70 kgs of cannabis powder and two sticks of cannabis wrapped in corn husk from his possession. He has been arrested and the vehicle seized.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated, police said.
