5 drug peddlers held

Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession, an official handout informed Monday.

It said two drug peddlers — Bilal Ahmad Lohrihanji, son of Ali Mohammad Lohrihanji of Gund Prang Hajin Bandipora, and Reyaz Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Gani Mir of Datpora Dogripora — were arrested at Datpora Dogripora and 1.460 Kgs of grinded cannabis powder was recovered from their possession.

At Harwan Sopore, one Manzoor Ahmad Mochi, son of Mohammad Shaban Mochi was arrested and 137 grams of cannabis was recovered from his possession.

At Chanpora in Srinagar, a Tempo Traveller (JK02AF-1776), with two persons on board was stopped and checked. Identified as Umer Manzoor Rather of Natipora, and Yawer Ahmad Bhat of Baghat Kanipora, both persons were arrested after a “substantial quantity” of contraband substance was recovered from their possession, police said.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations for further investigations, police said.
