Srinagar: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kashmir, the Community Information Centre (CIC) operators working in the Rural Development Department (RDD) of Jammu and Kashmir have appealed to the PM for his personal intervention to get their services regularized.

Prime Minister Modi is arriving here on Monday to inaugurate the strategic Z-Morh tunnel at Sonamarg in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

The CIC Operators, in a statement, highlighted the 2014 J&K Cabinet decision recognizing their contributions and approving regularization, followed by the creation of 172 Data Entry Operator (DEO) posts in 2016 under Government Order 320-RD & PR of 2016.

“These steps, supported by the Finance Department’s Empowered Committee and legal endorsements from the Advocate General and Department of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, remain unimplemented”, the statement reads.

Surviving on a meager monthly salary of Rs 10,000, the CIC Operators emphasized their advanced qualifications, including MCA, MSc, and BE/B.Tech degrees, and their recruitment through a transparent process in 2004.

Despite over two decades of dedicated service to RDD, their appeals for regularization have gone unheard.

“A humble and hand-folded appeal to the Hon’ble Prime Minister that your kind intervention is critical to ensuring justice and dignity for the CIC Operators of RDD, who are the backbone of the Rural Development Department in J&K (UT), expressing hope for decisive action during his visit,” the statement concludes.
