Srinagar: Police have arrested six drug peddlers in Srinagar, Kupwara, Shopian and Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession, police said in a statement Wednesday.
It said in Srinagar, during routine checking at Malkha chowk, police arrested one Zubair Ahmad Ahanger, son of Amin Ahanger of Kathi Darwaza, and recovered 40 grams of cannabis-like contraband substance from his possession. On his disclosure, one Bilal Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ghulam Qadir Sheikh of Tujgari Mohalla, was apprehended near old Malkha chowk and from his 80 grams of cannabis were recovered.
In Kupwara, at Khazanmatti, two persons — Aasim Sultan Sheikh, son of Mohammad Sultan Sheikh of Trehgam, and Mujtahid Nazir, son of Nazir Ahmad Lone of Khumriyal – were arrested and 13 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession.
In Shopian, one Ghulam Mohammad Parray, son of Abdul Ahad Parray of Chowan Keller was arrested following a raid on his house which yielded 41 grams of cannabis-like contraband substance.
In Kulgam, at Ganjipora, Mirbazar, a truck (PB07AF-2124) driven by Davinder Singh, son of Karnail Singh of Rajpur Safdarpur district Hoshiarpur Punjab, was searched and 3.140 Kgs of poppy straw was recovered from it. Driver of the truck was arrested and the vehicle seized.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for further investigations, police said.
