Srinagar: The Winter Games Association of Jammu and Kashmir (WGAJK) convened its Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday at Hotel Shahanshah, Boulevard Dalgate, Srinagar.
The meeting brought together office bearers, executive members, founding members, former international athletes, and authorized representatives from affiliated district units and educational institutions.
WGAJK President Rauf Tramboo welcomed the participants and expressed appreciation for their contributions to promoting winter sports in the region. The meeting focused on reviewing the association’s progress and charting an ambitious roadmap for the upcoming winter season, set to run from January to March 2025.
Highlights of the agenda:
Annual report presentation: An overview of the organization’s activities and achievements over the past year.
Finalizing the winter calendar: A detailed schedule of activities, including:
Domestic events: Various local competitions and training initiatives.
Special coaching camp: To prepare athletes for national and international events.
Hosting the Junior National Alpine Ski and Snowboarding Championship: Scheduled at Gulmarg.
Participation in Senior Nationals: Fielding the UT Alpine Ski and Snowboarding teams at the championship in Auli, Uttarakhand.
5th Edition of Khelo India Winter Games 2025: A flagship event to be hosted at Gulmarg.
President Tramboo highlighted the success of past editions of the Khelo India Winter Games and emphasized the need to expand winter sports activities to districts beyond Gulmarg.
“We need to extend our winter activities to other districts, which can serve as future venues. District units must initiate winter sports programs in their respective areas to ensure representation from across Jammu and Kashmir,” Tramboo stated. “Our collective efforts will solidify the region’s reputation as a hub for winter sports.”
