Srinagar, Dec 7: A five-year-old girl was thrown off the Rajbagh bridge near SPS museum in Srinagar allegedly by her “mentally distressed” aunt. The girl succumbed to her injuries on Friday at a hospital, police said.
News agency KNO quoted a police official as saying that the incident happened three days ago when the girl was accompanied by her aunt, who allegedly threw her off the bridge.
“The child had apparently fallen on the concrete base below and suffered critical injuries,” he said.
Soon after, locals and passersby rushed to the spot and evacuated the girl to a hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries yesterday after battling for life for three days at Srinagar’s Super Speciality hospital, he said.
Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Kothi Bagh police station. The officer in charge said that the FIR was initially registered under 109 BNS for attempted murder. After the girl’s death, it was updated to 103 BNS, and the victim’s aunt has been arrested, he said.
