Srinagar: A mosque, four residential structures and a bandsaw mill were damaged in a massive blaze at congested Baba Demb locality in down-town Srinagar on Friday, officials said.
The fire that engulfed four adjacent residential structures and a bandsaw mill, according to officials, originated from the Masjid Gousia after Friday congregational prayers around 2:30 pm, causing chaos and confusion in the area.
No loss of life or injury to any individual was reported in the incident.
Speaking to ‘Kashmir Images’, Deputy Director Fire and Emergency Services Kashmir, Aqib Hussain Mir said the fire was contained within an hour after the operation was launched.
“We are not sure, but it appears that the short circuit triggered the fire,” Mir said, adding that the fire was fuelled by the explosion in the LPG cylinders later.
