Srinagar: Police have arrested two drug peddlers in Srinagar and another one in Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Wednesday.
He said during checking at Syed Mansoor Bridge Zaldagar, police intercepted a vehicle (JK01AX-7639) and recovered 11 grams of brown sugar-like substance concealed in a polythene bag from it. Rakib Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Salam Dar of Rajouri Kadal Srinagar, who was driving the vehicle was arrested on the spot and vehicle seized.
Investigating a case related to a previously arrested accused, another “notorious” drug peddler was arrested. He has been identified as Mohammad Irfan Sheikh, son of Mohammad Ashraf Sheikh of Pamposh Colony, Noorbagh, and 2.51 grams of heroin was recovered from his possession.
At Nipora Crossing in Kulgam, one Akshay Kumar, son of Kartar Chand of Markoli, Samba, was arrested after 9.6 kgs of poppy straw-like substance was recovered from his possession.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for further investigation, police said.
