Bhupinder Kumar inaugurates workshop on preservation, restoration of heritage monuments

JAMMU: The Department of Archives, Archaeology & Museums, J&K organized one-day workshop cum training on the preservation and restoration of Heritage Buildings and Monuments at Panchayat Bhawan, Jammu.

The workshop was inaugurated by Secretary Public Works, Bhupinder Kumar.

The main aim of the workshop was to sensitise the Nodal Officers of Jammu Division including ADDCs besides Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers and other subordinate Engineers about various aspects of Architectural Conservation and Restoration of our built heritage. This included various technical aspects of Heritage Conservation and formulation of DPRs for scheme revival, restoration, preservation and maintenance of Architecture and Heritage in Jammu and Kashmir

This workshop was organized on the second day of World Heritage Week celebrations. The training program also aims to create a Team of Trainers (TOTs) from all the districts of Jammu Division who will further impart training in their respective districts.

Bhupinder Kumar, while speaking on the occasion, appreciated the efforts of the Department of Archives, Archaeology & Museums in organizing such a training program. He added that such capacity-building programs are the need of the hour and these attempts will add a fillip in restoring our rich heritage.

Director of Archives Archaeology & Museums, Kuldeep Krishan Sidha, briefed the participants regarding the importance of preserving and restoring our built heritage and how it is important for our future generations.

The resource persons for the program were Rahul Bhosle, Superintending Archaeologist, Archaeological Survey of India, Dr. Mehran Qureshi, Head, Department of Architecture, IUST, Awantipora, Kashmir, Dr. Navjot Kour, Research Associate, Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology, Tarragon Spain, Dr. Umar Farooq and Assistant Professor of Architecture, IUST, Awantipora, Kashmir.
