6 drug peddlers held

Srinagar: Police have arrested six drug peddlers in Srinagar, Kulgam and Kupwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Tuesday.

He said at Habakadal Chowk, one Sameer Majeed Khan, son of Late Abdul Majeed Khan, resident of Dadi Kadal Tankipora Srinagar, was arrested after 15 grams of heroin was recovered from his possession.

At Doodh Ganga Bund Chanapora, one Jan Manzoor Bhat, son of Manzoor Ahmad Bhat of Azad Basti Natipora was arrested and five grams of contraband brown sugar recovered from his possession, while . one Mohsin Abass Lone, son of Mohammad Abass Lone of Wazir Bagh was arrested from KursooAramwari Bund when 8 grams of brown sugar was recovered from him.

In Kulgam, near Old BDO Office Qazigund, one Bashir Ahmad Malik, son of Mohammad Yousuf Malik of Chowgam, was arrested after 4.6 kgs of cannabis was recovered from his possession.

In Kupwara, near Nerampora Bridge search of a vehicle (JK09B-3874) with two persons on board — Javaid Ahmad Sheikh (driver) and Sajad Ahmad, both residents of Gulgam – yielded 99 grams of a brown sugar-like substance. Both persons were arrested and the vehicle confiscated.

Police said preliminary investigation revealed that the apprehended individuals were actively engaged in the illegal sale of narcotics within the local area, specifically targeting the youth.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for investigation.
