IT Deptt reaches out to stakeholders to improve taxpayer services

Srinagar: The Income Tax (I.T.) Department, Srinagar today organized an outreach programme at its office in Rajbagh to reach out to taxpayers at their doorstep and improve taxpayer services.

The programme was part of a nationwide campaign being run by the department.

Amrapali Das, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Pr. CCIT), North West Region including J&K and Ladakh was the Chief Guest on the occasion. She interacted with over 75 persons from among Tax Practitioners, Chartered Accountants and other stakeholders as part of the programme.

The Pr. CCIT, NWR while interacting with the participants underlined the essentiality of paying taxes honestly for contributing towards the overall development of the country. She also stated that over the last several years, the I.T. Department has taken credible measures to encourage voluntary tax compliance and reduce taxpayers’ burden in filing returns and getting their problems resolved.

The stakeholders present in the meeting appreciated the efforts of the Department in conducting outreach programmes in the Valley and Ladakh. They emphasized upon the peculiar issues pertaining to the region and requested that the Department take into consideration such peculiarities and specificities while undertaking their responsibilities as Tax Administrators.

With regard to assessment proceedings, the Pr.CCIT observed that the assessments are being made in fair and judicious manner after affording due opportunity to the taxpayers, and further stated that the Department is committed to reaching out to the taxpayers and addressing their concerns in the quickest possible time.

During the interactive session, other senior officers of the Income Tax Department including Vikram Sahay, Pr. Commissioner of Income Tax, J&K Ladakh, Rajiv Gubgotra Addl. Commissioner of Income Tax Jammu, Digvijay Chowdhry, Addl. Commissioner of Income Tax Ludhiana and Rahul Padha, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Srinagar were also present.
