Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the significance of the day and said that the celebration is aimed to promote tribal empowerment, and acknowledge their role in India’s freedom struggle.

The DC added that the celebration reinforces the Government’s dedication to tribal welfare, echoing the national observance of Janjatiya Gaurav Divas. He also added that celebrating the day honours the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, a tribal freedom fighter who fought against British colonial rule.

During the programme, all nodal Departments of the District participated and set up stalls showcasing different welfare schemes and developmental initiatives of the Government to create an interface between the tribal population and employment generation schemes.

Unity and Integrity Pledge on Drug Abuse and Swachatta, promoting cleanliness and a healthy lifestyle was also administered on the occasion.

A comprehensive guide Compendium to self-employment generation schemes was also launched during the programme.

Pertinent to mention that the Government of India has declared November 15 as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas in 2021 to recognize the contributions of tribal freedom fighters and promote their cultural heritage.
