The programme highlighted the importance of Children’s Day and the need for observance of the same.

On the occasion, Chairman Tehsil Legal Services Committee Bijbehara Tabassum Qadir Parray highlighted the importance of the day and theme for this year’s Children’s Day.

She elaborated on the legal responsibilities of parents and society to prevent exploitation and abuse of children.

She also highlighted the role of the Child Welfare Committees and Childline Services.

She encouraged students to reach out to trusted adults, teachers, or authorities if they ever feel threatened or encounter situations of abuse or neglect.

She underscored the need for community awareness and legal literacy programs to ensure that every child and family understands these rights and protections.

In his address, Secretary DLSA Muzamil Ahmad Wani emphasized the need for such events and made it clear that wherever a child needs any form of support be it legal, social & economic, DLSA Anantnag is always ready to come forward.

He emphasized that children have specific legal protections under Indian law, such as the right to education, protection from exploitation, and the right to be treated with dignity and respect.

He stressed that these rights form the foundation for children’s development and are essential for creating a just society.

Wani highlighted landmark laws such as the Right to Education Act (RTE), which ensures free and compulsory education for children aged 6 to 14, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, which provides comprehensive safeguards against sexual abuse and exploitation.

He encouraged students to be aware of these rights and assured them of the DLSA’s unwavering support in ensuring these protections are enforced.

He also spoke on the importance of eradicating practices like child labour and the need for children to be empowered through education.

The programme ended with the distribution of certificates and mementoes to meritorious students of the area including the students who have recently qualified for prestigious KAS & NEET exams.
