Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers and recovered psychotropic substances, cash and a drone from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Friday.
In Safakadal area of Srinagar, police intercepted three persons riding a motorcycle (JK01AF-0207). Identified as Ajaz Ahmad Ganie, son of Manzoor Ahmad of Athwajan; Owais Ahmad Gojree, son of Bashir Ahmad of Braripora, Safakadal; and Mir Roman, son of Mir Mohammad Hashim of Ali Masjid, Eidgah, the trio was arrested after 140 bottles of Codeine Phosphate concealed in a box, cash amounting to ₹38,530, which police says is “believed to be proceeds of narcotics”, one drone and three mobile phones were recovered from their possession.
Police said preliminary investigations revealed that these drug peddlers “were using drones to monitor the movement of consumers (buyers), ensuring that buyers are not accompanied by police, and also to track the movement of police within their area of operation to avoid potential traps.”
In Baramulla at Kanispora Baramulla, one Junaid Ahmad Dar, son of Zahoor Ahmad of Kanispora, weas arrested after 12 grams of heroin and six grams opium were recovered from his possession.
At Garkote-Machikrand Crossing in Uri, one Shabir Ahmad Janjua, son of Abdul Majeed of Machikrand Uri was arrested after 36 grams of cannabis was recovered from his possession.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations for investigation, police said.
