Srinagar: An Ex-Servicemen Rally was held today in Srinagar, gathering over 500 veterans, Veer Naris (war widows), and their families to honor the valor and sacrifice of the Indian Army’s brave soldiers.

The event paid tribute to the heroes of the Battle of Shalateng, a pivotal moment in the 1947-48 Indo-Pakistan War that secured Srinagar’s defenses and marked a major victory for India.

The ceremony began with a solemn wreath-laying at the Shalateng War Memorial, where attendees honored fallen soldiers who played a critical role in repelling Pakistani raiders on November 7, 1947. Recalling that historic victory, veterans shared stories of courage and resilience, celebrating the spirit of unity between the Indian Army and local civilians who defended Srinagar against advancing forces.

The rally also included vibrant cultural performances and martial arts displays, showcasing the heritage of the Indian Army and inspiring the young generation. The event was organized by the Chinar Corps, emphasizing a continued commitment to the welfare and recognition of ex-servicemen (ESM) and Veer Naris. Special sessions addressed the unique challenges faced by veterans transitioning to civilian life, providing information on employment opportunities and ongoing avenues for national service.

A significant part of the rally was dedicated to ESM support, including interactive sessions tailored to assist veterans and war widows. In collaboration with the War Wounded Foundation, five veterans were provided with specially modified scooters, highlighting efforts to empower and uplift those who have served.

Through this rally, Chinar Corps reaffirmed its dedication to supporting veterans and their families, whose legacy of bravery continues to inspire the nation.
