DC Kulgam reviews implementation of COTPA-2003

KULGAM: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan today chaired a review meeting of the District Level Coordination Committee for the implementation of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, COTPA-2003 under the National Tobacco Control Program at mini-secretariat Kulgam.

During the meeting, the District Programme Manager through a PowerPoint presentation enumerated the roles and responsibilities of various departments/stakeholders in tobacco control.

The meeting was informed that in the first and 2nd quarter, 558 challans have been executed on violators realising a fine of Rs 46480, besides a number of awareness programmes, counselling sessions were also organised.

The DC instructed the CEO and others concerned to ensure that no sale of Tobacco products is permitted within 100 yards of institutional premises.

The Officers and heads of institutions were tasked with ensuring that all offices maintained tobacco-free environments.

The DC urged all stakeholders present to collectively ensure the rigorous implementation of COTPA-2003, which is aimed at combatting the tobacco menace.

The meeting was attended by ACR, DNO (NTCP) CMO, CEO and other officers.
