Kulgam: The restoration of the traditional Darbar Move should be prioritized in the larger interest of both divisions—Jammu as well as Kashmir, said Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, Member of the Legislative Assembly from Kulgam and leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI(M).

Tarigami was addressing his first rally at Town Hall, Kulgam, after securing victory in the Kulgam constituency, where he defeated a purported Jamaat-backed candidate by a margin of over seven thousand votes.

He also pointed out that Jammu and Kashmir is the only Union Territory in India being run by two governments, referring to a recent security review meeting that was held in the presence of the Lieutenant Governor, without an elected Chief Minister.

The CPI(M) leader said that he would strongly advocate for the restoration of the Darbar Move in the Assembly, as it benefits both divisions of J&K. He expressed his commitment to drawing the government’s attention to this matter in the Assembly.

During his speech, he also appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, urging him to address the unjustified verification process, which is causing problems for the youth. He said that while law enforcement should take its course against the wrongdoings of individuals, others should not face undue hurdles because of their relatives.

Tarigami also pledged to address the grievances concerning District Hospital Kulgam and promised to take up the matter with the relevant authorities to ensure its smooth functioning.

Furthermore, he advocated for proper remuneration for Lambardars, Chowkidars, Anganwadi Workers. ASHAs and other daily wagers. He also urged the government to restore the academic session to November, as was the practice in the past.
