Srinagar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Patwari Halqa Mujagund, Srinagar, after he was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of ₹50,000.
In a statement, the ACB reported that the arrest followed a written complaint, where the complainant alleged that the Patwari had demanded ₹1 lakh as a bribe to facilitate the registration of two-kanals of land and provide revenue extracts.
Following negotiations, the amount was settled at ₹50,000 as initial payment, with the remaining ₹50,000 to be paid after the task was completed.
The complainant, unwilling to comply with the bribe demand, approached the ACB for legal action, following which a case was registered under FIR No. 22/2024, U/S 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
A trap team was formed, and the accused Patwari, Ruman Qayoom, a resident of Sector-C, Gulberg Colony, Hyderpora, Srinagar, was apprehended while accepting ₹50,000 bribe. He was taken into custody and further investigation is going on, ACB said.
