2-day JK Science Congress concludes

SRINAGAR: The two-day JK Science Congress 2024, organised by the Government College for Women, M A Road, Srinagar, in collaboration with J&K Science, Technology & Innovation Council, Department of Science and Technology concluded here on Tuesday.

Minister for Science & Technology, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Satish Sharma, was the chief guest at the valedictory ceremony.

In his address, the Minister sought feedback from the stakeholders for better reach and impact of science and technology on ground. He assured all possible help from the government to promote research and innovation in the colleges and universities.

Vice Chancellor, Cluster University Srinagar, Professor Mohammad Mobin, sought government intervention in procurement of advanced equipment so that the faculty members in the constituent colleges of the university can undertake cutting-edge research.

Regarding the Science Congress, Professor Mobin said it offered a platform for showcasing groundbreaking research, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and bridging gaps between academia and industry.

Commissioner/Secretary Science & Technology, Saurabh Bhagat, said that the Science and Technology Innovation Council also provides liberal funding to research and development in addition to sponsoring of awareness events at various levels. “In the year 2023 alone, 111 research programs with a total cost of around Rs 16 crore were conducted in various universities and now we are working on a triangle of 274 budgets across various universities,” he added.

Director SKIMS, Professor Mohammad Ashraf Ganie underlined the importance of human resources. “Globally Indians who have been trained in information technology, health sector and other areas have made a significant contribution. So we should inculcate a culture of scientific temperament in students,” he added.

Earlier, Additional Director STIC, Dr. Nasir Shah and Principal of the host college, Professor Ruhi Jan Kanth briefed the guests about the key takeaways of the two-day event after Professor Mushtaq read out the detailed conference proceedings.

Professor Bilqees Aslam anchored the proceedings while Dr. Suhail Ahmad presented a vote of thanks.
