JAMMU: Senior BJP leader and MLA from Nagrota Assembly Constituency in Jammu district, Devender Singh Rana is likely to be appointed as Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the new Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, sources said.
According to sources Rana’s name has been cleared by the BJP high command, adding that the Rashtriya Svyamsevak Sangh (RSS) has also given its consent.
Others including Sunil Sharma MLA from Paddar-Nagseni in Kishtwar district, Dr Narinder Singh Raina MLA from RS Pura-Jammu South in Jammu district and Devinder Kumar Manyal MLA from Ramgarh in Samba district were also in the race for the LoP, however, the party high command has decided to hand over the charge to Rana owing to his seniority and vast political experience, said sources.
Rana secured a resounding victory in the Nagrota Assembly constituency, winning with the highest margin of 30,472 votes.
