PM, DF others extend support to CM Abdullah

New Delhi/Srinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated  Omar Abdullah on being sworn in as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, and said the Centre will work closely with him and his team for J&K’s progress.

National Conference leader Omar Abdullah was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, the first elected government in the Union territory since 2019 when Article 370 was abrogated.

In a post on X, Modi said, “Congratulations to Shri Omar Abdullah Ji on taking oath as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. Wishing him the very best in his efforts to serve the people.”

“The Centre will work closely with him and his team for J&K’s progress,” the prime minister said.

Meanwhile other national leaders also congratulated Omar Abdullah on being sworn as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee described his return to the chair for the second time as “historic”.

“I congratulate Mr Omar Abdullah @OmarAbdullah on his being sworn in as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir today. This is his second stint at the helm of public life in the state, but the juncture today is more historic,” Banerjee posted on her X handle.

She went on to state that Omar Abdullah’s return to the chair of the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir was “triumphal” and congratulated the people of J&K.

“I welcome his triumphal return through the elections, which truly constitute the greatest festival of democracy. I congratulate the real architects of the festival, i. e. the people of Jammu and Kashmir, in this festive moment of theirs,” she added.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in a post on his X handle, said it is a victory against those who undermine our federal democracy and secularism.

“Congratulations to @OmarAbdullah on being sworn in as the new CM of Jammu & Kashmir. This is a victory against those who undermine our federal democracy and secularism.

Wishing you success in leading your state towards peace, prosperity, and fulfilling the people’s aspirations,” the Kerala CM said in the post.

Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda said he is sure Omar Abdullah will bring peace and development to the region.

“I am sure he will bring peace and development to the region. Shri. Farooq Abdullah (Omar’s father) is a dear friend, my best wishes to him as well. May God bless J&K which has a very special place in my heart,” Gowda said in an online post.

Biju Janata Dal president and Leader of Opposition in Odisha Assembly Naveen Patnaik said: “Congratulate @OmarAbdullah ji on being sworn in as the Chief Minister of #JammuAndKashmir. I wish under your leadership Jammu and Kashmir develops further with the support of people. Best wishes.”

“Many congratulations to Shri @OmarAbdullah Ji on taking oath as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. On behalf of the people of Assam, we extend our best wishes for a successful tenure of the newly elected government,” Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a post on X. Looking forward to work together with you: Omar Abdullah replies to PM Modi, others

After assuming the office of Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, Omar Abdullah Wednesday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his congratulatory message, saying the J&K looks forward to “working together with you” to give people of the region an effective, efficient and honest administration.

“Thank you very much @narendramodi Sb for your message of congratulations. My colleagues & I look forward to working together with you to give the people of J&K an effective, efficient & honest administration,” Omar in a post on X replied to PM Modi’s congratulatory message.

Omar also expressed gratitude to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for extending best wishes to the new government formation in Jammu & Kashmir.

The CM said he will do his best to live up to the expectations of the people of Jammu & Kashmir.

Taking to micro-blogging site X (formerly twitter) the J&K CM Omar Abdullah said: “Thank you very much @rajnathsingh Sb. My colleagues & I will do our best to live up to the expectations of the people of J&K. We look forward to working together with you in the weeks & years ahead for the progress of J&K”.

Omar also thanked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for joining the oath ceremony in Srinagar. He said the people of J&K are looking towards you for continued support in getting statehood back to the region.

“Thank you very much @RahulGandhi & thank you for joining us today. The people of J&K look towards you for your continued support as we work to get our statehood back. Your presence today along with @priyankagandhi gave us a lot of encouragement & the family was really happy to get to spend some time with both of you,” Omar Abdullah in a post on X said.

While responding to Chief Minister West Bengal Mamata Banerjee, Omar Abdullah said: Thank you very much @MamataOfficial didi. The people of J&K are the rightful claimants of the credit for the revival of democracy here. I look forward to your continued support as my government works to fulfill the mandate we were given.”
