Srinagar: The All-Kashmiri Muslim Migrants Association (AKMMA) has hailed the new National Conference government in Jammu and Kashmir as a “historic opportunity” to fulfil the long-standing aspirations of the people of the region.
In a statement today, AKMMA President Nazir Ahmed Lone extended his best wishes to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, expressing hope that the new government would lead the state towards progress and prosperity.
Lone described the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government as a missed opportunity to address the critical issues facing J&K. However, he voiced optimism that Omar Abdullah’s leadership, along with his cabinet, would bring much-needed relief to the people, especially in resolving the pressing issues that have plagued the state for years.
“I witnessed the oath-taking ceremony of Omar Abdullah and his cabinet colleagues with great hope,” Lone said. “Under Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, I expect the suffering of the common people of Jammu and Kashmir to finally come to an end. The real demands of the people, particularly the unresolved issues of the Muslim migrants, which have been neglected by the previous administration, must be addressed.”
The new National Conference government under Omar Abdullah officially took charge today, marking the end of nearly five years of the President’s Rule. The change in leadership follows the recent assembly elections, where the National Conference-Congress coalition secured a strong mandate to govern the state.
Lone urged the new government to act swiftly on the concerns of the Muslim migrant community, which he said had been overlooked for years by what he called the “cunning administration” of the past. He emphasized that addressing these long-standing demands would be crucial for bringing justice to the loyal people of Jammu and Kashmir.
