Several shops, houses gutted in Gurez inferno

Bandipora: A major fire broke out in the Dawar Tulail market in the Gurez area of Bandipora district on Sunday evening, causing significant damage to property, officials said.

They said over half-a-dozen shops were damaged, along with damage to residential houses.

The incident was reported at 8:34 PM, with teams of Fire and Emergency Services were immediately dispatched from the Dawar Gurez command and nearby stations, local news agency KB reported.

The officials said that upon arrival, the fire was found to have engulfed nearly 8 to 10 shops and two residential houses.

They added that efforts are on to douse the fire while its cause and the extent of the damage could be determined only after the blaze is put off.

Firefighters were on the spot when this report was being filed.
