It may be mentioned here that September 27 is observed as World Tourism Day. Since 1980, the United Nations World Tourism Organization has celebrated World Tourism Day as international observances on September 27. This date was chosen as on that day in 1970, the Statutes of the UNWTO were adopted. The adoption of these Statutes is considered a milestone in global tourism.

The theme of this year’s World Tourism Day was “Tourism and Peace.”

Meanwhile, on the World Tourism Day, Aru village in Pahalgam won the Adventure Tourism Award at the Best Tourism Villages Competition 2024.

This award celebrates the village’s success in keeping its natural beauty while promoting adventure tourism in a sustainable way.

The Best Tourism Villages Competition started in 2023 to recognize villages that protect their cultural and natural heritage while focusing on sustainable tourism.

This year, the competition saw 991 villages from 30 states and Union Territories participate, with 36 villages winning in different categories. Aru stood out by winning in the adventure tourism category, as the place is known for activities like trekking, skiing, and camping.

Aru, located in the Himalayan foothills in south Kashmir’s Pahalgam, is popular among tourists for its stunning views and outdoor activities.
