Srinagar: Claiming that they have no confusion over the ongoing electoral process, the spokesperson of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami, Shameem Ahmad Thoker Friday said that every member has been given an assignment on which they are working.
“There is no confusion in the leadership about the ongoing electoral process. Everyone has been given an assignment. They are doing their work in their own way,” Thoker told media-persons on the sidelines of a public meeting in north Kashmir’s Baramulla.
He said an “atmosphere of fear is deliberately being created to keep the cadre of Jama’at away from the electoral process”, which he strongly condemned.
“There is an atmosphere of fear everywhere, but in north Kashmir its intensity is very high. There are many among us who wish to participate but a notion is being spread that once the elections are over, those who may have voted for the Jama’at backed independent candidates will be taken to task by the agencies. This is highly condemnable,” he said.
He appealed to the cadre of banned Jamaat-e-Islami to come forward and take part in the electoral process without any fear.
Responding to a query, he said the Jama’at panel wants to address all issues of the people, including teb larger Kashmir issue. “Besides Kashmir, we want all issues pertaining to day-to-day life of common people to be addressed and resolved. And for this there is no way other than dialogue. We want every stakeholder to come to the table and resolve issues amicably,” he added.
“We are fighting elections both for our people and to ensure the ban is lifted over Jama’at,” he said.
