KIDS SPEAK

Though I am a student of 6th standard, I have heard a lot and read a lot about environment, thanks to my teachers, my text books, social media, my mentors and specifically my mother. Today I am a kid and people may not take me or my suggestionsseriously but tomorrow millions like me in India and billions in the world will be the decision makers and therefore we have to start talking about the issue of environment right now and forever.

The environment is all around us, and it’s important for everyone. Our environment is made up of air, water, land, plants, animals, and even us!

What is the Environment?

Let’s break down what the environment is. The environment is where we live. It includes:

  1. Air: We breathe air! It helps us stay alive and keeps us healthy. A better air quality is very important for our healthy life and polluted air causes so many diseases.
  2. Water: After air, water is what keeps us alive. Water is essential for life. We drink it, use it to wash ourselves, our cloths, our utensils. And if it is not clean, we are prone to infections. So we have to keep our water bodies clean.
  3. Land: It’s where plants and animals live. We need to take care of our land so it can support life; plants and Animals: Trees, flowers, birds, and even insects are part of our environment. Plants give us oxygen to breathe, and animals help keep nature balanced.
  4. Us: We are part of the environment! Everything we do affects the world around us. It’s our job to take care of it. Who is responsible for water pollution? Who is responsible for air pollution? Who is responsible for soil degradation?. The answer to all these questions is therefore ‘We’. We are responsible for everything in the world and if we become indifferent, nothing will change.

Why is the Environment Important?

The environment is important for many reasons:

Health: A clean environment means we have clean air to breathe and clean water to drink. When we take care of the environment, we also take care of our health.

Fun: Parks, forests and beaches are great places where we can play games, and explore. When the environment is clean and beautiful, it makes our playtime even better.

Learning: Nature is full of amazing things to discover. We can learn about different plants, animals, and how they all work together.

How Can We Help the Environment?

Even as kids, there are many ways we can help the environment. Here are some easy and fun ideas:

  1. Plant Trees and Flowers: Trees and flowers make our environment beautiful and help clean the air. We can plant seeds at home or in school gardens. Watching them grow is exciting!
  2. Pick Up Litter: Whenever we see trash on the ground, we can pick it up and throw it away in the right bin. Keeping our parks and streets clean makes the environment nicer for everyone.
  3. Save Water: We can help by turning off the tap when we brush our teeth or taking showers.
  4. Tell Others: We can share what we learn about the environment with our friends and family. The more people know, the more they can help!

Conclusion

In conclusion, the environment is very important, and it’s up to all of us to take care of it. Whether it’s planting a tree, or keeping our playground clean, every little action helps. Let’s work together to protect our environment so that we can enjoy it now and in the future! Together, we can make our world a better place.
