Srinagar: A meeting of State Aadhaar Implementation Committee (UIDIC) was followed by a workshop under the chair of Chief Secretary, J&K Atal Dulloo, IAS to review the Aadhaar penetration and Aadhaar usage for good governance in J&K, at the Civil Secretariat, Srinagar.

The meeting was attended by the Additional Chief Secretary of the Information Technology Department Dheeraj Gupta IAS, Additional Chief Secretary of the Jal Shakti Department Shaleen Kabra IAS, Principal Secretary, Agriculture Production Department Shailendar Kumar IAS, Principal Secretary School Education Department Alok Kumar IRS, Commissioner Secretary Housing and Urban Development Department Mandeep Kaur IAS, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri IAS, Commissioner Secretary Social Welfare Department Sheetal Nanda IAS and Administrative Secretaries, officials from UIDAI and representatives of various Government Departments and banks.

Bhawna Garg IAS, DDG UIDAI, apprised about the progress of Aadhaar enrolment and updation in J&K and the challenges to enrol children in the age-group of 0-5 years. A team from UIDAI Regional Office Chandigarh presented data on the working of Aadhaar centers, department wise progress and Aadhaar usage for welfare schemes in J&K.

During the meeting, the Chief Secretary meticulously reviewed the progress of enrolment agencies and highlighted issues related to the Aadhaar generation in the UT. He stressed the officials to work hand in hand and identify delay and technical snags, so that Aadhaar services are seamlessly delivered.

He also emphasised providing Aadhaar identity to children aged 0-5 years who need a valid birth certificate to be enrolled with Aadhaar. He instructed that birth certificates should be issued timely so that Aadhaar enrolment can be done in hospital itself.

During the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary Information Technology Department Dheeraj Gupta, IAS emphasised upon all the registrars to operationalize the non-functional kits and run IEC campaigns to keep Aadhaar updated.

DDG UIDAI informed that residents who got Aadhaar more than 10 years ago need to update their Aadhaar with valid documents of identity and address proof. She said this online process of ‘document update’ is available free of cost up to 14th Dec 2024.

During the workshop presentations on Aadhar ecosystem, authentication processes and use cases for deriving maximum impact of Aadhar were made. Examples of good governance from different states were showcased. Departments using Aadhaar authentication were encouraged to use face authentication for improved efficiency. Potential areas where Aadhaar can be used for good governance and social welfare were also discussed.
