Srinagar: Police on Monday claimed to have arrested seven drug peddlers in Anantnag, Pulwama and Awantipora.
Sharing details, a police spokesperson informed that at Bumzoo Mattan, an Innova vehicle (JK02DK-9333) with three persons on board was intercepted and 11 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, 80 Dolo-T tablets, 70 OMODOL tablets, good quantity of beer and alcohol and a cash amount of ₹11,500 was recovered from it.
The three persons travelling in it — Lateef Ahmad Shah, son of Mohammad Qasim Shah of Mattan; Ayaz Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Amin Bhat of Seer Hamdan; and Rayees Ahmad Malik, son of Ghulam Mohammad Malik of Sarnal Payeen, Anantnag, were arrested, and the vehicle seized, police said.
Near Wazir Bagh Park, search of an auto (JK01AK-7694) yielded a “good amount of illicit liquor”, police said. The driver identified as Riyaz Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Qadir Dar resident of Zadipora, Anantnag was arrested and the auto seized.
At Kudangan Marhama one Noor Mohammad Ganie, son of Abdul Rahim Ganie of Marhama, was arrested with a “significant quantity of alcohol”, police said.
At Circular Road Malikpora Crossing in Pulwama, one Fayaz Ahmad Tantray, son of Manzoor Ahmad Tantray of Kremshore Khansahib, was arrested when a packet of heroin was recovered from his person. His vehicle (JK01N-4401) was also seized, police said.
At Larkipora, Awantipora one Ajaz Ahmad Shah, son of Ghulam Mohammad Shah of Larkipora was arrested after 21.4 kgs of cannabis-like substance was recovered from his possession, police said.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at concerned police stations with respect to all these arrests for further investigation, police said.
