Srinagar: The anti-Corruption Bureau on Sunday said that it caught a Naib Tehsildar red-handed for demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant.
In a handout, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) said it received a complaint against Naib Tehsildar Uri Altaf Hussain Khan alleging that he was demanding bribe of Rs 10 lakhs from complainant for preparing land documents and for submitting report to Tehsildar Uri on application moved by the complainant before Tehsildar Uri few days back.
On receipt of the complaint, the allegations were verified discreetly and found true, following which a case was registered under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (r/w its amendment act 2018) against Altaf Hussain Khan, Naib Tehsildar Uri for demanding bribe & under section 12 of PC Act 1988 against Pardeep Kumar, Patwari for abetment.
A team of ACB sleuths later caught the accused Naib Tehsildar red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant. Khan was arrested on the spot and the bribe money of Rs 50,000 was also recovered in the presence of independent witnesses, ACB said.
It was also found that Naib Tehsildar was recently booked by ACB Baramulla in a separate case as well along with other officials of the Revenue department for abuse of official position and insertions in revenue records etc, which is also under investigation, ACB said.
The accused was presented before the Court of Special Judge Anti Corruption Baramulla and was remanded for 10 days police custody, ACB said, adding that further investigation of the case is going on. The role of patwari and sarpanch are being looked into, the ACB statement said.
