Islamia College hosts special lecture on Artificial Intelligence

Srinagar: The Innovation and Incubation Hub of Islamia College of Science and Commerce, in collaboration with the Department of Physics & Nanotechnology, organized a special lecture on “Artificial Intelligence: The Way Forward.”

The event is part of a series of lectures by eminent academicians and practitioners aimed at sensitizing students to the evolving landscape of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The session began with a warm welcome from Prof. Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, Controller of Examinations at the college, who urged students to equip themselves with the necessary AI skills to stay relevant in the future job market. Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Jhat, Convenor of the Innovation and Incubation Hub, emphasized the importance of such lectures, noting that they help students remain aligned with the changing job opportunities in the field.

The lecture was delivered by Prof. M. Arif Wani, a distinguished researcher and scientist in AI from the PG Department of Computer Applications at the University of Kashmir. Prof. Wani provided an insightful overview of AI, explaining how it enables computers and machines to simulate human intelligence and problem-solving abilities. He covered a wide range of topics, including current research in AI, applications like Biological and Artificial Neural Networks, Google Duplex, Silicon Brain, GPS guidance, autonomous vehicles, and generative AI such as ChatGPT. He also discussed the innovations, challenges, and risks associated with AI.

Prof. Wani encouraged students to embrace the rapidly changing AI landscape and to pursue research and innovation in the field, which could open up significant career opportunities. The lecture concluded with an engaging Q&A session, where students and faculty members actively participated, reflecting the high level of interest and enthusiasm for the subject.

The event was well-received, with overwhelming participation from both students and staff, underscoring the college’s commitment to keeping its academic community at the forefront of technological advancements.
