Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president, Vikar Rasool Wani on Monday alleged that a conspiracy has been hatched to prevent him from becoming the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir.

Rasool’s remarks follow his recent removal as JKPCC chief and the subsequent appointment of Tariq Hameed Karra as his successor. The development comes weeks before the awaited assembly elections, scheduled to begin September 18.

Addressing a public meeting, Rasool as per news agency KDC accused “certain factions within the party” of orchestrating a plan to block his path to the Chief Minister’s office.

“I want to tell you clearly that several forces have been working behind the scenes to ensure that Vikar Rasool doesn’t become CM of J&K,” Rasool claimed, adding, biases related to his identity as a Gujjar or Pahari were influencing these actions.

Rasool’s comments come after he skipped a party event in Srinagar, organized to welcome Karra.

However, Karra explained his absence by citing his travel from Banihal, though senior party members Tara Chand and Raman Bhalla attended the event from Jammu.
