Kulgam: The 78th Independence Day was celebrated today with gaiety and zeal at Government Degree College (GDC) Kulgam.
Principal GDC Kulgam, Prof. Dr. Syed Eazaz Hussain Rizv hoisted the national flag, followed by the dignified sounds of the National Anthem, setting a patriotic tone for the proceedings. A disciplined parade by the NCC cadets added to the ceremony’s decorum.
In his address, the Principal extended heartfelt greetings, emphasizing the significance of patriotism in the nation’s development. He highlighted key national initiatives such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the fight against global warming, and Mission Viksit Bharat, urging the college community to actively support and engage in these efforts.
Rizvi also spoke about the college’s vital role in contributing to and collaborating on these national agendas.
A vibrant cultural program was organised by the college that showcased the rich diversity and talent within the college. The event featured a captivating Gojri dance performance that highlighted the cultural heritage of the region.
NCC cadets added energy to the celebration with their dynamic dance performance, while an NSS volunteer delivered a melodious song that resonated with the patriotic spirit of the occasion.
A unique and engaging Ladishah performance by an NSS volunteer brought a traditional touch to the festivities, enthralling the audience with its wit and humor. The cultural program was a true reflection of the unity and diversity that Independence Day represents, leaving a lasting impression on attendees.
All faculty members, non-teaching staff, NSS volunteers & other students participated in the celebration.
At the conclusion of the function, Felicitation cum Award Ceremony was held during which Prof. Dr. Syed Eazaz Hussain Rizvi, conferred the prestigious “Award of Excellence” to Dr. Rayees Ahmad Rather, Assistant Professor in the Department of English. Dr. Rayees was recognized for his outstanding contributions, bringing laurels to the college through his leadership roles as NSS Program Officer, Viksit Bharat Coordinator, and NCORD Nodal Officer. His efforts have significantly elevated the institution, particularly in Mission Viksit Bharat and the NSS unit’s exemplary organization of social and academic programs. His work as NCORD Nodal Officer also led to the successful elimination of open smoking on campus.
Besides that NSS volunteers and NCC cadets were also felicitated by Prof. Zubair Ahmad and Dr. Bilal Ahmad Shah for their substantial contributions to their respective units. The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Hilal Ahmad Shah, Assistan professor of Urdu.
