“During the meeting, the party leaders expressed their deep concern about the disempowerment of Jammu and Kashmir due to various initiatives by the central government. The participants decided that the party must reiterate its recent call for unity among all political parties to protect the constitutional rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” the press note said.

Pertinently, Apni Party recently issued an appeal to all parties, emphasising the need to collectively advocate for the restoration of J&K’s constitutional rights including the statehood with all the powers it held before August 5, 2019.

“In today’s meeting, the party leaders expressed its deep concern yet again over the recent amendments to the J&K Reorganization Act by the central government. These amendments have increased the LG’s powers in Jammu and Kashmir. Apni Party is apprehensive that enhancing the LG’s powers will eventually weaken the State, diminish the Assembly’s authority, and undermine the elected government in the future,” the press note said.

According to the press note, “The leaders decided that the party will reiterate its appeal for unity among all parties for the greater interests of Jammu and Kashmir and its people. Therefore, Apni Party humbly requests all political parties in Jammu and Kashmir to come forward and unite for the sake of J&K’s interests.”

“Let’s set aside our political differences and unite to safeguard the rights of Jammu and Kashmir and its people. This is a critical, “now or never” moment. The people of Jammu and Kashmir cannot afford a weak assembly or a powerless elected government. To effectively address pressing public issues and grievances, J&K needs a robust assembly and a competent government, regardless of who is elected. It is imperative that we raise our voices together at this crucial time,” the press note added.
