Around 1000 Indian students return home through land port, regular flights from Bangladesh

New Delhi: A total of 778 Indian students have safely returned to India through various land ports. Additionally, around 200 students have flown home via regular flight services from Dhaka and Chittagong airports, The Ministry of External Affairs press release said.

The High Commission of India in Dhaka, along with the Assistant High Commissions, remains in close contact with over 4,000 students still in various universities across Bangladesh, providing them with necessary assistance, said officials

Furthermore, students from Nepal and Bhutan have also received help in crossing into India upon request, according to a Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) press release.

In response to recent events in Bangladesh, the High Commission of India in Dhaka, and the Assistant High Commissions in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Khulna, have been facilitating the return of Indian nationals.

These efforts are coordinated with local authorities to ensure safe travel to the border crossing points along the India-Bangladesh International Border. The MEA is also working closely with civil aviation, immigration, land ports, and BSF authorities to ensure a smooth passage for citizens, officials stated.

Regular communication with Bangladesh authorities is maintained by the High Commission and Assistant High Commissions to ensure the safety and security of Indian nationals and students.

Where necessary, security escorts have been arranged for road travel during repatriation through specific land ports. Additionally, the High Commission in Dhaka is coordinating with Bangladesh civil aviation authorities and commercial airlines to ensure uninterrupted flight services to India from Dhaka and Chittagong, which Indian nationals can use to return home.

The situation in Bangladesh remains volatile, with a complete communications shutdown reported amid curfew and massive security troops patrolling the streets.

Mobile internet and telephone lines are down, and public transportation services, including buses, trains, and ferries, have been suspended.
