Cyber Cell of J&K Police saves ₹84,484 in online financial fraud in Kupwara

Srinagar: In a significant achievement, the Cyber Cell of J&K Police saved ₹84,484 after receiving a complaint regarding online financial fraud in Kupwara.

On receiving the complaint, an initial investigation was taken up which revealed that the fraud was done using a fake WhatsApp call. The investigation also revealed that the victim was asked to submit school fees via PhonePay, after following the directions from the fraudster.

Using cyber tactics, Cyber Cell Kupwara successfully blocked the transactions and the amount was put on hold and saved this whole amount.

The Cyber Cell of J&K Police urges the general public to stay vigilant against online fake trading, avoid clicking on suspicious links and fake SMS credit Messages, refrain from installing unauthorized Apps, avoiding to pick any video calls from unknown numbers and be cautious while sharing personal information online. If you encounter any such suspicious activity, report it immediately to the National Cyber Crime Helpline Number 1930 or www.cybercrime.gov.in.
