SRINAGAR, JULY 20: The authorities at Govt Lalla Ded Hospital today clarified some allegations levelled against it regarding mismanagement of patients, terming them nothing but sheer acts to malign the sanctity and reputation of the hospital.

In a statement issued here, it has been given out that all patients especially referred patients are received and attended in Casualty (Emergency Room) by the doctors on duty and it is as per their status that they are shifted to Labour room or High Dependency Unit (HDU) where again they are attended to and beds are assigned to them in the labour room where doctors and nursing staff attend to them.

All this is done under the supervision of senior doctors and consultants who take rounds frequently. Evening round of the Labour room is also taken by consultants, so at any point of time no patient is left unattended.

Similarly, with regard to the issue of Saima Banoo (Name Changed) from Bandipora admitted on Tuesday, it is clarified that the protocol was followed and the patient has delivered normally, and both baby and mother are fine. It takes 12-18 hours for normal delivery to occur as such some amount of pain is a normal physiological occurrence during labour and the attendants as well as the patients should have the patience for a normal delivery.

It is important to mention that this patient had delivered normally and should not have been referred here in the first instance, so as to decrease the burden on a hospital which is already overburdened.

Regarding Sakina Banoo from Budgam who as per media report left the Hospital for private treatment. As per MRD Department and I/C Resident Medical Officer MRD department of the hospital, there is no report that any patient has left the hospital without treatment.

Meanwhile, LD Hospital which is the lone tertiary care maternity Hospital in Kashmir is catering to the patients from across Kashmir Valley, Kargil, Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban. So patients from every nook and corner of the valley and even outside the valley are either referred or coming of their own accord which shows the immense faith of patients in this hospital. However this puts a heavy burden on the hospital.

In the last four days (Monday to Thursday) this hospital has attended to 2780 patients in the outpatient department (OPD) whereas 447 patients were admitted, 204 caesarian sections were done, 82 normal deliveries were conducted and 60 other Major and Minor Surgeries were also done totalling to 346 surgeries at all. Amongst the referred 106 patients, 86 were unjustified and only 25 required referral.

Supra mentioned data shows that there is a huge influx of patients to this hospital who are well attended by the medical and the para-medical staff of this hospital, however, priority is given to high-risk patients.

The Govt LallaDed Hospital is committed to better maternity health services with quality patient care and dedicated staff.
