During the meeting, the Tax officers of Jammu and Kashmir have been instructed to take strict action against cases of tax evasion, tax leakage and tax pilferage in the Union Territory for revenue augmentation besides ensuring 100% compliance in return filing by registered taxpayers.

Addressing the meeting, Commissioner STD expressed his concerns over a dip in revenue collection in the first quarter and directed tax officers to gear up for the remaining three quarters, where at least a 20% hike is expected from each circle to meet the revenue targets of FY 2024-25.

The Commissioner instructed officers to use the analytical portal provided to officers to detect cases of tax evasion. He stressed on the enhanced usability of the GST portal by all the concerned officers as there are many indicators which could help in the early detection of any fraudulent activity.

Special Secretary, Finance K.K. Sidha, advised the officers to get familiar with the type of dealers pertaining to their circles thoroughly as it is most important to know the basic fabric of the revenue stream. He also stressed the officers to increase field activity and make taxpayers aware of the consequences of non-compliance and tax evasion with a view to creating deterrence amongst the taxpayers.

The Special Secretary stressed on proactive information sharing amongst various wings of the department to detect tax evasion and revenue leakage cases. He directed the officers to ensure compliance in sectors like banquet halls, catering businesses, tuition centres, car accessories and modification shops where business is primarily done on a cash receipt and not on proper GST invoice.

He asked the enforcement wings to intensify their field actions and take appropriate measures to curb undervaluation with a special focus on outer and remote areas. He impressed the officers of enforcement wings to make workable rosters for area and trade-specific enforcements.

During the meeting, Namrita Dogra gave a presentation showing circle wise performance of each tax circle. The performance of Deputy Commissioners of Enforcement Wings and Stamps was also discussed in detail.

During the meeting, focus was also laid on revenue augmentation, proper scrutiny and tracking of E-way bills, optimal use of technology for assessment of red flags, aggressively following the cases where huge chunks of tax amount got choked, tax evasion and Input Tax Credit mismatch cases.
