Fraudster Wani, police said had duped a police ASI Mohammad Rafiq, son of Salam Din Choudhary, and his daughter Mehnaz Rafiq of Thuroo, Tehsil Thuroo, District Reasi, presently residing at Madina Hill, Bathindi Jammu, and others on the pretext of providing land and government jobs to their kin.

The fraudster enticed the victims by posing to be very close to “influential people” and duped them of their hard earned money to the tune of Rs 51 lakhs on the pretext of helping them secure government jobs and allotment of land.

The complainants alleged that out of Rs 51 lakhs, Rs 38.7 lakhs were taken for providing government jobs and remaining Rs 12.15 lakhs for allotment of government plots at Sidhra Jammu or Nowgam Srinagar. Most of the payment in this regard was made directly into the savings account of accused Gulzar Ahmed Wani in J&K Bank Branch Manwal, and the rest was paid in cash.

During the course of enquiry the allegations levelled were prima-facie found true following which a formal case was registered against the accused, police said.
