Srinagar: Kashmir’s Director School Education Dr. Tassaduq Hussain Mir on Wednesday said any private school found collecting or demanding capitation fees from students, will forfeit its registration.

The Director Education said the issues raised at a meeting of the Fee Fixation Committee (FFC) recently have been addressed, and that the minutes of the meeting will be released within the next few days.

The assertions come in reference to the barrage of complaints that the authorities had received regarding the huge capitation fees being received by the private schools.

“I have put together the minutes of meeting this morning, which I will be forwarding to the Fee Fixation and Regulation Committee (FFRC) for further action, which may include a fine and cancellation of registration in the event of a extreme infractions,” Director Education told reporters on the sidelines of a function at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kothibagh.

“Various issues were thoroughly discussed at a meeting of the Fee Fixation Committee (FFC) that was held about twenty days back; the action will be taken after the minutes of meeting are sent to the chairman of the FFRC,” Director Education added.

Responding to a query whether the government would prolong summer break in schools considering the soaring temperatures in the valley, he said the decision in this regard is contingent upon the local meteorological department’s advisory.

“We are assessing the ground situation and will take a call based on a weather advisory. We are currently in touch with the local meteorological department,” he added.
