Srinagar: On the occasion of the last Friday of the Hijri year, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq urged the Muslims of Kashmir to engage in self-reflection, considering whether their actions displeasing to Allah might be the cause of the severe trials they are facing.

Addressing the congregation at the historic Jama Masjid in Srinagar, Mirwaiz, amid prayers for rain, noted that the people have endured severe hardships and trials over the past year. He highlighted the current suffering due to intense heat and lack of rainfall, causing various difficulties and problems.

Mirwaiz criticized the J&K administration for its “negligence regarding the erratic power supply during the hot weather”.

He pointed out that during the winter months, the public faced many issues due to severe power shortage. “Now, with the intense heat, the government appears indifferent to its responsibilities in ensuring the supply of essential services like water and electricity, in spite of a hike in tariff,” he said.

He added that with the month of Muharram approaching, it is the administration’s responsibility to ensure the provision of electricity, water and other essential items to the people.
