Five J&K Police Officers Awarded Shaurya Chakra for Bravery

Srinagar: In an unprecedented honor for the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), five officers and personnel have been awarded the Shaurya Chakra for their exceptional bravery and courage in the line of duty. This marks the first time in the history of JKP that such a number of Shaurya Chakras have been conferred upon its members.

The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, bestowed the Shaurya Chakra upon the recipients at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.

The honored officers and personnel are SgCt. Saif Ullah Qadri (posthumously), DySP (now SP) Mohan Lal, SI Amit Raina, SI Feroz Ahmed, and Ct Varun Singh. Additionally, VDC member Shri Parshotam Kumar of Rajouri was also conferred with the Shaurya Chakra.

In his commendation, the Director General of Police (DGP) of J&K, R.R. Swain, praised the courage and dedication of these gallant officers. He congratulated them and their families, stating that their service and commitment have brought honor and glory to the JKP. “This recognition at the highest level showcases the exemplary commitment of one of the finest police forces in the country,” he added.

The DGP extended his heartfelt gratitude to the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Raj Nath Singh, and officers of the Ministry of Defence, as well as the Central and UT Governments for acknowledging the valor and sacrifices of the J&K Police. He also expressed appreciation for the unwavering support of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Ministry of Defence had announced the Shaurya Chakras for these bravehearts on Independence Day 2023 and Republic Day 2024.
