Academic-driven startups to transform J&K’s economy: LG Sinha

Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Saturday addressed the national seminar on the ‘Role of academic-driven Startups in developing economy of J&K UT (RASE 2024)’, at NIT Srinagar, an official press release informed.

It said in his keynote address, the LG commended the initiative aimed at creating an environment to inspire, empower and connect academia and industry and mentor the students to lead the startup ecosystem.

“I believe Startups are a powerful instrument to bridge the gap between universities and industries. The Startups have also been able to meet the two important objectives- employment generation and profit generation,” the LG said.

The LG motivated the students to set action-oriented goals to turn their entrepreneurial dream into reality and contribute to the nation’s socio-economic transformation and economic growth.

“My message to future Startups entrepreneurs is to focus on ‘Problem First’ and not ‘Product First’ so that your ideas can accelerate the process of Viksit Bharat and also encourage entrepreneurial spirit among young students,” the LG said.

The LG also highlighted the potential of academic-driven startups to transform J&K’s economy by fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in educational institutions. In this regard he highlighted the UT administration’s key initiatives like J&K Start-up Policy and potential in Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP) to transform the start-ups and entrepreneurship ecosystem in the UT, especially in rural areas.

“There are immense possibilities for startups in tourism, health, logistics, handloom, handicraft, horticulture, agriculture and allied sectors. Under the guidance of PM Narendra Modi, we are committed to provide necessary support and handholding to the young entrepreneurs in both technology and non-technology sectors,” he said.

He said the national level seminar will encourage universities, colleges to invest in the future and nurture the talents for impactful innovations.

The LG also emphasised the need to provide high-quality technical and vocational education and training to future entrepreneurs.

Two other important objectives of the Startups are to develop and transfer new technology for societal transformation and create a vast talent pool as per the needs of the industry, the LG observed.

He called for enhanced collaboration between academia, industry and policymakers to develop a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem in Jammu Kashmir.

The two-day national seminar is being organized by National Institute of Technology Srinagar in association with the Department of Holistic Education, Central University of Kashmir, ICAR CITH, Science & Technology Department, and SKUAST-Kashmir.

Ravinder Nath, Director, NIT Srinagar & Vice Chancellor, Central University Kashmir; Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary, Technology Development Board; Dr. Parikshat Singh Manhas, Chairman JKBOSE; Dr Thakur SKR, eminent scientist; experts, intellectuals, researchers, HoDs and entrepreneurs were present.

LG says, core values of NCC bind us to shared vision for brighter future

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today addressed senior wing cadets of National Cadet Corps at Special National Integration Camp, at JAKLI Regimental Centre, Rangreth, an official press release said.

It said the LG, in his address, appreciated the NCC Directorate, Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh, for providing opportunity to young cadets to forge life-long friendships, understand and value the rich heritage of cultures that forge unity despite the diverse languages and traditions.

He said the Special National Integration Camp promotes the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ and has brought together cadets from 17 directorates of the country to foster common values of patriotism, integrity and selfless service.

The activities at the camp truly symbolize the spirit of unity in diversity. It instills in cadets the values of discipline, integrity and camaraderie, he added.

The LG lauded the major role of NCC in promoting the fundamental values and propagating principles of human dignity and equality in the society transcending the boundary of race, religion and gender.  These core values bind us to a shared vision for a brighter future, he added.

“NCC has always served the society with commitment, efficiency and complete dedication in accordance with its motto ‘Unity and Discipline’ and have made immense contributions in nation-building,” the LG said.

He observed that the Special National Integration Camp will enable NCC cadets to appreciate and share the common aspirations of the youth of Kashmir Valley vis-a-vis the rest of the country,

Addressing the cadets, the LG reiterated the commitment of the UT administration towards the empowerment of youth of Jammu & Kashmir.

The LG called upon the youth to join the NCC in large numbers and selflessly serve the society and the nation.

NCC Directorate of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh is establishing three new NCC units.  It has already established state-of-the-art training academies in Nagrota and Leh and also started programmes to connect the youth with innovation and start-ups.

As part of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ Programme, over 250 cadets from 17 directorates of the country participated in the camp organised by NCC Directorate, Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh.

On the occasion, the cadets showcased the rich and diverse cultures of India through their performances.

Major General RK Sachdeva, Additional Director General, NCC Directorate Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh, Brig. Deepak Sajjanhar, Group Commander NCC Group Srinagar and other senior officers were also present.
