3 drug peddlers arrested

Srinagar: Police arrested three drug peddlers in Shopian and Ganderbal and recovered contraband substance and cash from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Saturday.

He said in Shopian, at a checkpoint at Doublepora, police intercepted a vehicle (JK13H-0342) and its search yielded a heroin-like contraband substance weighing about five grams and cash of Rs 30,000. Two persons travelling in the vehicle — Umar Noor Mohammad, son of Noor Mohammad Bhat, and Sameer Ahmad Bhat, son of Ali Mohammad Bhat, both residents of Wuyan Pampore – were arrested and vehicle seized, police said.

In Ganderbal, at Warpahoo Shuhama link road police intercepted a vehicle (JK01AQ-3910) driven by one Abdul Qayoom Wani, son of Ali Mohammad Wani of Yangoora Ganderbal. During checking of the vehicle, contraband cannabis powder-like substance weighing 3.476 kgs was recovered, following which Wani was arrested and the vehicle seized.
