Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers in south Kashmir’s Pulwama and Kulgam districts and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Saturday.

He said at Chitrepora Pulwama, one Shahid Salam Ganie, son of Abdul Salam Ganie, resident of Sirnoo, was arrested along with contraband substances.

On his disclosure, police raided multiple locations, resulting in the recovery of a heroin weighing approximately 80 grams. Three more accused persons were arrested. They have been identified as Abrar Farooq, son of Farooq Ahmad Khan, resident of Prichoo; Tariq Ahmad Ganie, son of  Bashir Ahmad Ganie; and Fayaz Ahmad Wani, son of Abdul Ahad Wani, both residents of Chandgam.

In Kulgam, police intercepted a Scooty (JK03G-3801) at main road Korel near Mirwani Crossing. During search, 500 grams of cannabis was recovered from the rider Mohammad Yaqoob Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat of Kher Kadal Takibal Bijebhara, following which he was arrested and scooty seized.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered for further investigation, police said.
