World Environment Day: ‘Gulmarg Green Conclave’ held to champion environmental conversation

BARAMULLA: On the eve of World Environment Day, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa inaugurated the ‘Gulmarg Green Conclave’, a day-long event at the Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM) in Gulmarg.

The event, organized by the Gulmarg Development Authority in collaboration with the Indian Army, local hoteliers, and service providers, highlighted the importance of environmental conservation in the picturesque tourist destination of Gulmarg.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from various stakeholders, including the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Gulmarg Development Authority, Waseem Raja, other dignitaries, and students from local schools.

The ‘Gulmarg Green Conclave’ is aimed to foster a collective responsibility towards preserving the natural beauty and ecological balance of Gulmarg, renowned for its pristine landscapes and vibrant biodiversity.

In his speech, the DC emphasized the urgent need for environmental conservation in the face of escalating climate change and environmental degradation. He further urged everyone present to commit towards protecting and preserving our natural heritage with a collective effort to maintain the beauty and sustainability of our hill resorts for future generations.

The ‘Gulmarg Green Conclave’ also serves as a platform for students and young participants to engage with environmental experts and learn about sustainable practices.

The dignitaries present delivered insightful speeches and held interactive sessions, providing valuable insights into waste management, conservation strategies, and the importance of maintaining ecological balance.

The event featured a series of activities designed to engage the community and raise awareness about environmental issues. A painting competition showcasing young students’ visions of a greener world, a cycling event highlighting sustainable transportation and a women’s cricket match promoting women’s role in environmental advocacy and sports.

All competitions were met with great enthusiasm, and the winners were felicitated with cash prizes sponsored by the Service Providers highlighting the association’s support in promoting eco-friendly practices and supporting community-driven environmental initiatives.
