SRINAGAR: Secretary of Health and Medical Education (HME), Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, today remarked that quality healthcare facilities are the basis of effective patient care and there should be a target for all health facilities to achieve quality certification under National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS).

With this certification, UPHC Hazratbal has become the first health facility in the Urban category in J&K to receive the certification award for upholding high standards of quality, protecting patient rights, service provision and raising awareness.

The Secretary said this while speaking at a function organised by Government Medical College Srinagar in collaboration with Block Medical Office Hazratbal to commemorate the grant of National level Certification of UPHC Hazratbal under the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) of Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Mission Director NHM, Nazim Zia Khan, Principal GMC Srinagar, Dr Iffat Hassan Shah, Director Health Kashmir, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad; Administrator Associated Hospitals, Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, HODs, Medical Superintendents, BMO Hazratbal, resident Medical Officers and Paramedics were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, the Secretary congratulated all the stakeholders, particularly the BMO Hazratbal and its staff on this achievement. He remarked that all hospitals and health institutions should be patient-friendly while ensuring all basic facilities.

The Secretary said that all healthcare institutions should have a proper infrastructure with all aesthetics maintained besides having user-friendly technology with an emphasis on health-related Information Management in place. He exhorted upon all health institutions to set a target of achieving quality certification of this status as was achieved by Block Hazratbal.

The Secretary, on the occasion, also felicitated BMO Hazratbal, Dr. Farah and various other officials.
