5 drug peddlers held

Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers in Baramulla and Kulgam, and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Tuesday.

At Ganie Mohalla Trikanjan in Baramulla, Abdul Qayoom Ganie and Ghulam Hassan Ganie, sons of Ghulam Rasool,  were arrested after 446 grams of heroin-like substance, worth Rs 2 crores approximately, was recovered from their possession.

He said at Khudwani Bypass in Kulgam, Manzoor Ahmad Wagay, son-in-law of Gul Mohammad Dar, and Mushtaq Ahmad Bagow, son of Wali Mohammad Bagow, both residents of Redwani Payeen, were arrested after three kgs of poppy-straw and three grams of brown sugar-like substance was recovered from their possession.

Police said 220 grams of cannabis-like substance and cash of Rs 15,000 “believed to be proceeds of narcotics crime”, was recovered from a vehicle (DL4CNB-7870) at a checkpoint at Manigam crossing. The vehicle was seized and Rayees Ahmad Turray, son of Mohammad Yousuf Turray of Khawa Mir Ali Chani Chowk Anantnag, travelling in it was arrested.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for further investigations.
