A police spokesperson in a statement said that on May 08, Police Station Uri received specific information that one Mehmood Ahmad Najar, son of Mohammad Hassan Najar of Churunda, and Sajad Ahmad Malik, son of Mohammad Amin Malik of Dhanisyedan are involved in narcotics smuggling.

A case (FIR No. 35/2024 U/S 8/21, 29 NDPS ACT) was registered as part of investigation and both suspects were detained.

On their disclosure that they had concealed contraband substance and cash at Churanda, a police party accompanied by Magistrate and with help from the Army, searched the spot and recovered the contraband substance and cash.

One Fayaz Ahmad Hajam, son of Mohammad Rafi Hajam of Danisyedan had managed to smuggle contraband from Pakistan, police said, adding that he too was detained.

Subsequently, he also led police to a cache of concealed contraband and some cash from his house.

“So far police have recovered contraband weighing 7.800 kg, valued at Rs 50 crore approximately, and cash of Rs 12,63,500 from this module which has links with Pakistan-based handlers,” the police spokesperson said.

He added further investigations are underway.
