8 drug peddlers held across Kashmir

Srinagar: Police have arrested eight drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances and cash from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Thursday.

He said at Choon Crossing in Budgam, Bilal Ahmed Wani, son of Mohammad Sultan Wani, and Showket Ahmad Wani, son of Ghulam Hassan Wani, both residents of Thokerpora, were arrested after poppy straw-like substance weighing about 8.1 kg and 36 grams of cannabis besides three mobile phones and cash of Rs 1000 was recovered from their possession.

In Kulgam, near Behibrada, 5.5 Kgs of poppy straw-like contraband substance was recovered from the procession of Sareer Ahmad Itoo, son of Abdul Rashid Itoo of Sonigam. He was arrested.

At Chatapora near industrial estate in Pulwama, three persons — Abrar Ahmad Yatoo, son of Ghulam Nabi Yatoo of Rajpora;, Hilal Ahmad Laway, son of Ghulam Mohammad Laway of Monchward Keller; and Zeeshan Farooq, son of Farooq Ahmad Chat of Chatapora Pulwama – were arrested and 370 grams of cannabis-like contraband substance recovered from their possession.

During investigation, one Abdul Rashid Mir, son of Ali Mohammad Mir of Batapora Naina, was arrested. On his disclosure, 650 grams of cannabis-like substance and 1.6 kg cannabis charas powder were recovered.

At Litter, one Imtiyaz Ahmad Wani, son of Ghulam Hassan Wani of Litter, was arrested after 3 kgs of cannabis powder-like substance was recovered from his possession.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigations have been initiated, police said.
